Meet the Team

The Music Director is responsible for the writing, arranging, teaching, and conducting of music for the Hertfordshire Showband. This role leads the musical development of the band, preparing members for performances and rehearsals through high-quality instruction and creative direction. The Music Director ensures musical excellence across all sections, fostering a positive and inspiring learning environment while helping to shape the Showband’s artistic identity.

The Performance Director is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of the Hertfordshire Showband’s performances including representing the Showband as the Drum Major. This includes planning and executing rehearsal schedules, ensuring the band’s readiness for live events, and maintaining high standards of performance delivery. The Performance Director works closely with the Music Director and other leadership members to refine show elements, manage stage presence, and ensure the overall performance experience aligns with the Showband’s core values. They play a key role in shaping the band’s public image and ensuring that every performance is engaging and polished. As Drum Major, they lead and coordinate performance movements during parades. This includes giving visual commands, maintaining timing and formation, and ensuring the band presents cohesive and polished display. 

The Event Officer is the central management lead for coordinating and overseeing both social and performance events for the Hertfordshire Showband. This role involves planning and organising a range of events, creating memorable experiences for members. The Event Officer collaborates closely with other team members to ensure all events align with the Showband’s core values, fostering community engagement and enhancing connections that go beyond the music and marching.

The Band Representative serves as the liaison between the band members and the leadership team. This role involves communicating the needs, concerns, and ideas of band members to the leadership, ensuring that their voices are heard and considered in decision-making processes. The Band Representative also helps foster a positive and inclusive environment within the band, supporting member engagement, morale, and collaboration.

The President holds overall accountability for the governance and strategic direction of the Hertfordshire Band Academy. Serving as both a leader and advisor, the President supports the leadership team and various committees, ensuring alignment with the band's mission and core values. This role also involves maintaining accountability to the Board of Trustees, fostering transparency, and upholding the highest standards of organisational oversight.

The Chair provides leadership and coordination across the Hertfordshire Band Academy's committees and leadership teams. Working closely with the President and other key members, the Chair helps guide decision-making, ensures effective communication, and supports the smooth running of meetings and events. This role plays a vital part in maintaining structure, driving progress on key objectives, and fostering collaboration throughout the organisation.

The Secretary is responsible for maintaining accurate records and ensuring clear communication within the Hertfordshire Band Academy. This includes preparing meeting agendas, taking and distributing minutes, and keeping official documents organized and up to date. The Secretary also supports coordination among leadership and committee members, helping to ensure smooth operations and consistent information flow across the band.

The Treasurer is responsible for overseeing the financial management of the Hertfordshire Band Academy. This includes maintaining accurate financial records, preparing budgets, monitoring income and expenditure, and ensuring all financial practices align with the Academy’s policies and values. The Treasurer provides regular financial reports to the leadership team and Trustees, supports funding and grant applications, and ensures the Academy’s financial health to support its musical and social activities.

The Showband Director holds overall accountability for the operational performance, structure, development, and member retention of the Hertfordshire Showband. This role is central to defining and driving the band's purpose, growth, and future vision, ensuring it remains vibrant, inclusive, and forward-thinking. The Director leads with strategic oversight while working closely with leadership committees and members to maintain high standards in musical and organizational excellence. They are accountable to the Hertfordshire Band Academy Executive Committee.

The Wardrobe Coordinator is responsible for managing and maintaining the uniforms for the Hertfordshire Band Academy. This includes overseeing fittings, organising distribution and returns, handling repairs or replacements, and ensuring all members are properly outfitted for performances and events. The role helps uphold the band's visual identity and professionalism, working closely with the leadership team to support smooth operations and presentation standards.

The Quartermaster is responsible for the management, maintenance, and organisation of all equipment and instruments used by the Hertfordshire Band Academy. This includes tracking inventory, ensuring items are in good working condition, coordinating distribution for rehearsals and performances, and overseeing storage and transport logistics. The Quartermaster plays a key role in supporting the band’s operational readiness and ensuring members have the resources they need to perform at their best.

The Safeguarding Officer is a qualified individual responsible for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of younger members within the Hertfordshire Band Academy. This role involves overseeing the implementation of safeguarding policies, ensuring that appropriate guidelines and procedures are followed at all times. The Safeguarding Officer acts as the main point of contact for any safeguarding concerns, working closely with leadership teams, volunteers, members and parents to maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all members.

The Chaperone is responsible for managing all chaperoning requirements for trips away with the Hertfordshire Band Academy. This includes overseeing the safety, wellbeing, and supervision of members—particularly younger participants—during travel, accommodation, and off-site activities. The Chaperone ensures that safeguarding standards are upheld throughout the trip and works closely with leadership teams, volunteers and members to provide a safe, supportive, and organised environment.

The %P is responsible for capturing high-quality photos and videos at events and additional rehearsals for the Hertfordshire Band Academy. This content is used for both internal purposes—such as member communications and archives—and external promotion, including social media, marketing, and public relations. The %P plays a key role in visually documenting the Academy’s journey, showcasing its talent, spirit, and achievements to the wider community.

The Writer is responsible for creating and distributing the Hertfordshire Band Academy newsletter, keeping members and supporters informed and engaged with the latest news, events, and updates. This role also involves gathering suggestions and input from band members, helping to ensure that everyone has a voice and feels included in the Academy’s ongoing journey. Through clear, engaging communication, the Writer helps strengthen community connection and promotes the spirit of the band.

The Graphic Designer is responsible for designing eye-catching graphics and managing the Hertfordshire Showband’s presence across social media platforms. This role involves creating and posting engaging content that promotes the band’s activities, performances, and achievements, while also helping to grow and connect with our online community. Working closely with the leadership team, the Graphic Designer plays a key role in shaping the band’s visual identity and public image, ensuring consistent, creative, and on-brand communication.
